Most Scenic Elopement Spots in Indiana

Growing up, the most “scenic” thing about Indiana was flat land and cornfields (or every other year, soybeans). As I got older and was able to explore more of this Midwest state, I found Indiana offered way more breathtaking views than I realized. Indiana is home to rocky ravines, sand dunes, hilly views, and even waterfalls - all of which you can get married at! Here are some of the best elopement spots in Indiana.

Indiana Dunes National Park

Indiana’s only national park is located in the northwest corner of the state in Porter, Indiana. Here, you can see 15 miles of sandy beaches, hike sand dunes, or admire the waves of Lake Michigan. This is a perfect location for a summer elopement. Spend the day hiking dune trails, exploring Michigan City, kayaking or boating, and watch the sunset over Lake Michigan to end your day.

Turkey Run State Park

If you want to feel like you’re hiking in the PNW (or feel like you’re in Twilight), Turkey Run State Park is where you want to elope! Once you cross the suspension bridge, the moderate trails take you through ravines of moss covered rocks, creeks, and beautiful greenery. Along with miles of hiking, you can also kayak along the river through the park.

Depauw Nature Park

Once a limestone quarry, this 520 acre nature park is a hidden gem near Depauw Unversity’s campus. The cliff ridge overlooks the flat valley and pond. During the springtime, you can take the rail trail for a more wooded, wildflower experience. During the dry summer months, you can explore more of the valley when the water is low. Any time of the year you can walk along the cliff ridge trail and get some gorgeous photos with the sunset behind you.

Brown County State Park

The rolling hills of Brown County State Park make a gorgeous backdrop for your elopement. This location has miles of hiking trails for couples who want to spend the day outdoors or easily-accessible lookouts for pretty views without the work. During the summer months you can catch a breathtaking sunset at Hesitation Point. Brown County State Park also has designated horse and biking trails for couples who don’t want to walk the trails.

France Park

Another limestone quarry-turned-park in Indiana is France Park, nestled in Logansport. You can hike the entire trail around the cliffs of the park. In the summer months, France Park is open for swimming and kayaking in the lake. If you’re certified, you can even scuba dive to explore the bottom of the quarry floor. France Park also has a small waterfall and campsites available to rent.

Cataract Falls

Indiana doesn’t have many waterfalls but my most favorite has to be Cataract Falls. It’s the perfect spot for a sunrise elopement to say your vows as the sun peaks over the foggy falls. This location is best for late summer/early fall elopements so the river is low enough to have a nice waterfall in the background.
